Frequently Asked Questions

Your journey to optimal health starts here. Explore our FAQ, ask us anything, and when you’re ready, take the next step on your wellness path.

  • TRT doesn't massively raise DVT risk for everyone, but it may increase clot risk in susceptible people. This is because TRT can elevate hematocrit and blood viscosity, a known thrombosis contributor. That's why at TWM, we take a thorough medical history and monitor your labs closely throughout treatment.

  • Despite the myths and fearmongering, TRT does not cause cancer. We check your baseline PSA level before starting, and if it's abnormal, you'll need a urology evaluation for clearance before proceeding

  • Yes, ongoing labs are crucial to ensure safety. Typically, we need labs every 3 months. We usually test liver enzymes, lipid panel, PSA, CBC, and testosterone levels (Free and Total). Once the dosage is stable, labs can be less frequent.

  • TRT does become a lifelong commitment for men with primary hypogonadism, but not mandatory. You are welcome to stop treatment anytime, if desired, to see if symptoms return. Starting testosterone replacement therapy usually suppresses natural production so levels drop to where they were before treatment. There are safe ways to discontinue therapy, such as tapering off under supervision or taking breaks.

  • Yes, TRT can impair male fertility by suppressing sperm production in most men. Recovery is possible after stopping TRT but not guaranteed, especially after long term use. If children are in your future, we can explore hCG + TRT or alternatives to protect fertility. Family planning goals will be discussed during the formal initial consultation.

  • Some of the most common side effects are: acne/oily skin, erythrocytosis (elevated hematocrit), gynecomastia (preventable with aromatase inhibitors if needed), and fluid retention.

  • YES! One of the principles of precision medicine is that labs do not tell the full picture. If you are having symptoms that correlate with testosterone deficiency, you are likely still a candidate to undergo replacement.

  • First, we get a baseline value from your initial labs. Then, if indicated, testosterone replacement therapy is started. Once TRT is initiated, we monitor symptoms such as energy levels, workout recovery and strength, mood stability, skin changes, fluid retention, sleep, libido and sexual function.
